New Mini Wetland, Wildflower Beds

Fantastic morning at Forest Drive Park on Saturday 27th September, thanks to all volunteers who came along to help, many hands certainly made light work 👍 Bill Mestons digger did a lot of the landscape work which was a huge help.

Mini wetland scrape done, new wetland plugs and plants in, including :-

Yellow flag iris

Valerian

Loostrife

Ragged robin

Cuckoo flower

We will be purchasing more plugs and plants soon to add to this. The idea being water should run off the path and into the wetland area, meaning the path can be used throughout the year.

We also added a new wildflower bed, planted a selection of wildflower bulbs and seeds. Created a new mini mound which will be planted up with bulbs and seeds to add some colour to this area of the Park.

The bulb bed and tree area next to the wetland was cleaned up, dead overgrowth removed, trees trimmed back and soil prepared for more bulbs.

Around 30 bags of cuttings and weeds, plus a large pile of tree and bush cuttings moved over to the car park, which will be picked up by Aberdeenshire Council Landscape Services team this week.

Some fresh dog mess picked up around the path which is inexcusable when there are 3 bins in the vicinity. Hard to understand some dog owners.

If anyone wants to join as a friend of the Park just get in touch, no commitment needed, you can help when you can. We still have a small list of jobs to do before the year is out, including planting of new hedgerows to attract more wildlife and birds 👍
