During June and July we conducted a flora survey including all wild flowers, trees, bushes and plants through-out the whole of Forest Drive Park in order to identify plant species, map habitats, evaluate ecological health and just to see what we have.
Flora Icognita is a free app which uses AI along with a vast user database of over 30k species to help identify plants, trees and grasses. It allows you to save photos to continually add to their database and enhance the ability of AI systems they use. It utilises your mobile phones GPS signal to pin point where each observation was done, allowing for map data along with raw data to be exported.
No ads and no tracking information apart from your observations.
We found we have over 626 species and believe there are still more which may appear as the seasons begin to change, the beauty of the app is you can keep adding and just re-export and update the data.
This allows us to identify where we need to concentrate more time on, if we need to add more flowers, plants, specific pollinators for the bees and where we may need to control invasive species. We can also compare data year on year to see what works best in which location.
